Man Carjacks Victim with Gun, Then Crashes His Car

A man carjacked another man in a parking lot at the Great Mall Sunday evening, stole his vehicle, then crashed his vehicle. He was arrested after jumping the fence into a nearby fire station.

Milpitas Police released information Wednesday about an armed carjacking in the parking lot of at the Sunday evening, Nov. 6.

At approximately 6:55 p.m., a male suspect, identified by police as Adan Serjio Olivares, a 28-year-old Hispanic Salinas resident, approached another man at his vehicle in the Marshall's parking lot. Olivares pointed a gun at the man and demanded his vehicle. Olivares then fled in the man's vehicle.

Shortly after, while driving down the 600 block of Abel Street, Olivares crashed the vehicle, then fled the scene on foot. Officers were notified of the carjacking and crash and immediately responded, arriving at the scene in less than three minutes.

Firefighters from then notified the police dispatch center that a man had just jumped the fence into the fire station's rear parking lot and was running through the lot. Officers responded, searched the area, and found Olivares with a handgun nearby.

Olivares was booked at the Santa Clara County Jail on charges of carjacking, being a felon in possession of a firearm, resisting arrest, driving under the influence of alcohol and fleeing the scene of an accident, according to Mipitas Police Sgt. David Ostrander.
