Milpitas Students Start Compliments Page on Facebook

Students have set up Milpitas High Compliments, a forum for positive posts about Milpitas High School students.

Students at Milpitas High School are using Facebook for more than posting prom photos and status updates — they’ve created a page for compliments.

That’s right. They’re turning the social media space into a positive platform through a Facebook page called Milpitas High Compliments.

The page just recently launched on Jan. 29 and has already gained almost 300 followers.

It’s all positive on this page, and there are guidelines:

  1. Must be positive!
  2. Please exclude profanity (curse words) as they might be seen as school inappropriate.
  3. Tag your friends!

These compliment forums have gained popularity recently. According to NBC News, it all began in Canada in September 2012 “as an antidote to cyber-bullying and a way to spread joy across campus.”

Since then it has spread to many schools across the U.S., including locally.

Burlingame High School also in the Bay Area has also stepped on board with their Burlingame High Compliments Facebook page.

In Milpitas, here’s a look at a few of the joyful posts:

“Pranay is such an amazing debater. 'Nuff said.”

“Jacky Lu is the humblest smart person ever. Though he's perfect at nearly everything he does, he's outgoing and his personality shines through the barrier that can sometimes intimidate others.”

“To Amy Nguyen. I've known you for a long time now and ever since I first met you, you have excelled above and beyond in just about everything. You're amazing. I don't know how you do it. I hope you have a nice today!”

“To my dearest Rachel, I just wanted to say that you’re such a strong and awesome person. You make me want to laugh, cry, and smile all at the same time. And even though we might have our ups and downs, I can always count on you to be there for me. I cannot thank you enough. You deserve all the love in the world. Happy Valentines Day!”
