9/11 Survivor Tells His Story To Milpitas Rotarians

At their September 9 meeting at Brandon's Restaurant in observance of the 12th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks Milpitas Rotarians and guests heard featured speaker Vice President and Branch Manager at Bank of the West Peter Young, who described his harrowing experiences as a 9/11 World Trade Center survivor.

Young working in WTC Building 7 near the Twin Towers described the shaking in his office when the first plane hit the tower. He said a decision was quickly made to evacuate. They went down the stairs and he remembers offering a woman, who was moving slowly, his assistance and she declined.

The second plane hit the other tower and he felt the earth shake under him. He recalls hearing the eerie sounds of those jumping from the towers hitting the ground.

When the two towers collapsed his WTC building 7 was left in flames. He struggled to get on a subway so he could be with his family as soon as possible.

Young displayed his 9/11 Poster with 9/11 pictures and front page headlines.

Peter Young hails from the Saratoga Rotary Club.

President Mark Tiernan presented new Milpitas Rotary Blue Badges to Officer Eric Emmanuele, Charlene Brooks, and Dr. Tama Mumah for their successful completion of their Red Badge membership requirements.

New member Eva Stone, past president of the Fremont Warm Springs Rotary Club, was presented with her new Milpitas Rotary Badge.
