Kansen Chu Visits Milpitas Rotary

San Jose City Councilman and candidate for the 25th State Assembly District, Kansen Chu, presented his program about recent developments in North San Jose. The projects there envision transforming 5,000 acres into 26.7 million square feet of additional office and research space coming to North San Jose in the next 15 years, along with 32,000 more housing units, 2.7 million square feet of retail and 550 new hotel rooms. Local school districts will have to gear up to accommodate lots of new students and traffic congestion will need to be addressed.

Chu also reported that the Southbay BART extension project coming through Milpitas to Berryessa Road could be running in 2017. There are plans as funding becomes available to go underground through Downtown San Jose to Diridon station and BART would continue to Santa Clara near the Mineta San Jose International Airport and Caltrain. He suggested a pod shuttle system to connect BART to the Airport. Electrifying Caltrain would complete the encirclement of modern rapid transit around the Bay.

Two young officers from Rotary Interact District 5170 Council - Outreach Coordinator Aaron Deng, and Area 8 Director Helen Newen were warmly received when they paid a visit to Milpitas Rotary Monday, April 21st. They announced their efforts to raise funds by selling raffle tickets for their travel fund to pay for the trip to Sydney Australia's Annual Rotary International Convention June 1 to 4 that will cost them $3,000 each. Milpitas Rotarians helped out by purchasing lots of chances for their drawing featuring multiple prizes.

Mike Mendizabel from the Milpitas Kiwanis Club offered their $20 Outback Steakhouse meal-deal fundraiser certificates for their May 7 and May 8 event. Milpitas Rotary is also planning an Outback Steakhouse fundraiser.
