Milpitas Teacher Nathan Dixon Is Milpitas Rotary Club's Leo B. Murphy Honoree

On Tuesday, October 22nd, at 3:30 PM the Milpitas Rotary Club celebrated the recognition of their 2013 Leo B. Murphy honoree at the Milpitas Library 2013.

Milpitas Unified School District Teacher Of the Year, Nathan Dixon, of Milpitas High School unveiled the Rotary plaque honoring him. He was accompanied by Milpitas Rotary President Mark Tiernan, Rotary Vocational Service Director Frank De Smidt, MUSD Superintendent Cary Matsuoka, Board of Education Clerk Danny Lau, and Milpitas Librarian Linda Arbaugh.

Dixon teaches Algebra 1 and 2 and a support class he started called "Math Connections" for Algebra 1 students.

He spends much of his time coaching basketball, golf, and advising the Robotics Club.

Nate goes above and beyond his engagement with the school community. He keeps students motivated with varied, lively approaches to his teaching. His award is seen by many as well deserved.

He was also honored among 36 outstanding teachers by the Santa Clara County Office of Education at its 44th annual teacher recognition celebration September 26.

Leo B. Murphy was a teacher, the first principal of Milpitas Unified's then-Samuel Ayer High School, and a highly regarded Milpitas Rotarian.
