OHLONE COLLEGE TRUSTEE THERESA COX VISITS MILPITAS ROTARY


At their Monday, October 28, lunch meeting of the Milpitas Rotary Club featured speaker Theresa Cox discussed education, small businesses, and trade at Brandon's Restaurant

Theresa has sat on the Ohlone College Board of Trustees since 2008. She's also an executive with 24 Hour Fitness.

She said Ohlone College serves about 20,000 students with an average age of 28 with high transfer rates to 4-year universities. A branch in Souzhou, China was opened 2 years ago.

Theresa serves in the Obama Administration on the U.S. Department of Commerce's Industry Trade Advisory Council on Small and Minority Business and the U.S. Department of Commerce's District Export Council - Northern California. She also recently led a trade mission to China in her duties as Chair of Fremont Economic Development Advisory Commission.

She described some small business opportunities especially for women and minorities through exports and trade.

She became the first African-American woman in the United States to earn a degree in Nuclear Engineering when she graduated from Northwestern University. Soon after she also completed her MBA Degree from the University of Rochester Graduate School of Business Administration.

Theresa said she has a son and a daughter.

Theresa is a candidate for the Assembly District 25 election in 2014, where incumbent Bob Wieckowski has termed out.
