Students Learn Entrepreneurship And Business At ELC

The Milpitas Rotary Club was invited to participate in a scholarship program that teaches students the principles of business with the Enterprise Leadership Conference (ELC) at their Monday, September 30 meeting in Brandon's Restaurant.

Past Rotary President Colleen Noll and ELC Co-Chair Steve Rainbolt of the Santa Clara Rotary Club described their annual program for high school juniors as an intensive introduction to entrepreneurial opportunities in America.

Rainbolt said the students assigned to teams of three boys and three girls each learn over 3 days about building a budget, a finance plan, marketing/distribution plan, sales plan, Human Resource plan, and if necessary a manufacturing plan.

They are challenged to meet the deadline to present their companies before the judges, he said. The top two winning teams are selected to make live presentations to the Rotary Club or sponsor.

The next Conference is scheduled for March 19-21, 2014 at the Asilomar Conference Center, Pacific Grove. The plan is for 96 students in two groups of 48.

The Milpitas Rotary Club is now considering sponsoring local students.

Cost per student is $497 all inclusive -- room & board, transportation, materials, meals, snacks, shirts, and gifts.

There is no cost to the students. Funds are raised by sponsoring Rotary Clubs and from other sponsors.

ELC is a collaborative effort of the Rotary Clubs of Campbell, Santa Clara, Saratoga, Sunnyvale, Sunnyvale Sunrise, Los Altos, Mountain View, and San Jose East/Evergreen.
