100 People Attend Milpitas Knights Event

Over 100 people attended a Knights award banquet held at St. John the Baptist Parish Pavalkis Hall.

There were over 100 in attendance at the Saturday, April 14 Knights of Columbus Council #5796 event held at St. John the Baptist Parish Pavalkis Hall.

There were two fire calls during the event and many firefighters had to leave early. Master of Ceremonies, Lou Horyza, opened the banquet with the Pledge of Allegiance by Deputy Grand Knight George Baltazar. The National Anthem was sung acapella by 9 year-old St. John the Baptist fourth grade student Myshka Nicole Javier.

A tasty buffet dinner by Manongdo Catering was served before the festivities kicked off. Citizen of the Year Nominees include Larry Ciardella, Sudhir Mandel, Mabel Mattos, and Harriett McGuire. (Ciardella and Mandel were absent).

Recognitions were presented to the three honorees from the Knights of Columbus, City of Milpitas, Supervisor Dave Cortese, and Assemblyman Bob Wieckowski. Former Mayor Denny Weisgerber filled in and made the presentations on behalf of the Assemblyman.
