Investigators Still Seeking Cause of Wednesday Gas Leak

A 3-inch service line was struck by workers doing construction in the area.

Milpitas fire officials continue to look for the cause of a gas leak near a major thoroughfare Wednesday morning.

Firefighters responded to a natural gas leak off of Montague Expressway - in the 1800 block of McCandless Drive - at 9:52 a.m.Wednesday morning, according to emergency services coordinator Sean Simonson.

A 3-inch service line was struck in an area under construction, Simonson said.

Neighboring businesses were told to shelter in place until 11 a.m.

Eastbound lanes of Montague Expressway between Trade Zone Boulevard and East Capitol Avenue were closed as crews secured the leak, he said.
