Milpitas Girl Scouts Send Care Packages to Soldiers Across Globe

Through "Operation Holiday Cards", girl scouts bundled holiday goodies to send to soldiers, including one Milpitas High alum.

Girl Scouts of Milpitas just completed its 9th year of "Operation Holiday Cards" last week.

Cards were collected from Girl Scouts all over Northern California, most of them handmade, to help bring Holiday cheer to service members who will be far from home during the holidays. Cards were bundled up and tied with yellow ribbon.

Donated candy from after Halloween is also collected and candy goodie bags are made to be sent with the cards. Cards were bundled up and tied with yellow ribbon. This year exceeded our expectations!

We collected 7,430 Holiday cards and made over 800 "very full" goodie bags, almost 400 pounds of candy!

These were packed with Girl Scouts nuts, a Santa hat, and a letter from the Milpitas Girl Scout Service Unit, explaining where they came from. We had 56 Flat rate boxes go out to 15 different solders. This year they included eight serving in Afghanistan, two in Germany, three serving on USS ships, and one to a 2011 MHS graduate, stationed in S. Carolina.
