Power Outage Wrecks Morning Routine, Commute

Blow dryers fell silent and toasters were idle Tuesday morning as a large power outage disrupted morning routines—and the commute.

It’s a pony-tail day for thousands of Milpitas women after an ill-timed power outage cut electricity at about 7:15, wrecking hairstyles, breakfast plans and, for some, the morning commute.

The traffic lights worked at Calaveras Boulevard and Serra Way, but not at Calaveras and Abbott Avenue. Two police officers were stationed at the busy intersection, the last before the I-880 interchange.

Businesses also lost power at the shopping centers in the impacted area. The Burger King on Calaveras had a sign posted on its door saying that it was closed due to the outage.

PG&E has not reported the source of the problem.
