San Jose firefighters will be wrapping and giving gifts to children in 550 families this weekend, having collected them in its 28th annual toy drive.
For a month now, toy collection barrels have been placed at the city's 33 fire stations and according to fire Capt. Mary Gutierrez, the receptacles overflowed.
The recipients were selected by local charities and county social service organizations, Gutierrez wrote in a news release.
"The program is sponsored by Los Bomberos of Northern California in conjunction with the San José Fire Department and the San Jose Firefighters Local 230," Gutierrez wrote.
Toys will be wrapped Friday and will be distributed to various families from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday.
