Chinese School Celebrates Lunar New Year

Milpitas Community Chinese School shares photos and videos from its cultural event on Saturday.

Children and parents of the  took time out of Saturday language classes last week to join in a campus celebration of the Lunar New Year. The event is part of the school's cultural curriculum.

"In America, it's a very generalized kind of new year," said Milpitas parent Tak Liong, "so we create our own culture."

Prior generations of Chinese in Milpitas may come from Vietnam, Taiwan or Hong Kong—so traditions are mixed together. While Liong's wife took three days off work to clean the house and prepare a feast, other moms, such as Belinda Lai from Warm Springs, decided to buy take-out, such as barbecue, from Milpitas restaurants.
