NOTE: This is an event not just for San Jose, but for the Greater S. Bay area.

Dear Friends of the Arts:

Here’s what Jon Nakamatsu, 1997 Van Cliburn Gold Medalist and perhaps the best known concert pianist in the Bay Area has to say about San Jose’s very own International Russian Music Piano Competition:

"We are so fortunate to have the International Russian Music Piano Competition right here in San Jose.  An organization of the highest caliber, this annual event showcases some of the world's most talented young pianists.  I encourage you to attend and revel in the music (not all Russian!) and the competitive excitement.  In doing so, you will support the performing arts in San Jose and help make this a cultural capital of Northern California."

More than 100 contestants from 12 different countries (Armenia, Australia, Canada, China, Georgia, Japan, Mexico, Mongolia, Russia, S. Korea, Taiwan, and of course the U.S.) and some of the most talented young pianists in the world, will compete in four different age categories, ages 6 to 32.

There is, of course, an emphasis on music by great Russian composers (Tchaikovsky, Rachmaninoff, Prokofiev, Scriabin, etc.), but there’s also music by great non-Russian composers as well (J.S. Bach, Beethoven, Chopin, Debussy, etc.).

The daily competition is open to the public and is *FREE*.

And for those of you with music students, what better way for them to see what the right combination of talent, hard work and dedication can lead to?

The International Russian Music Piano Competition is a California registered non-profit organization with a mission of providing excellence and education through competition and performance with an emphasis on Russian music.
