Summer Events Coming to the Library

See Taiko drummers, musicians, a popular science writer and more at the Milpitas Public Library in June and July.

In addition to the regularly featured events at the library, this summer brings more entertainment and activities. Check out the schedule for kids, teens and adults.

Kids

Little Scene Flip Book

Chicken Feathers for Lunch Bunch Book Club

Tuesday, June 28, noon, Children’s Activity Room

Students entering the third or fourth-grades can sign up for a copy of Chicken Feathers by Joy Crowley at the children’s help desk. Bring your lunch and the library will provide drinks and a dessert.

Carnival of Chaos

Thursday, June 30, 3 p.m. auditorium

Prepared to be entertained with performers who will use music, comedy and juggling to make you laugh.


Incredible Hat Show

Thursday, July 14, 3 p.m. auditorium

The circus comes to Milpitas with educational entertainer Benny Bendini, who combines magic and science. Bendini is winner of the Bay Area Stage Magic Contest of 1998 and 2007, winner of the Pacific Coast Comedy Magic Contest of 2008.


Cascada de Flores

Thursday, July 21, 3 p.m., auditorium

A professional music ensemble performs modern interpretations of traditional folk music of Mexico and Cuba. Listen to their music and check out their website.


San Jose Taiko

Thursday, July 28, 3 p.m., auditorium

Japanese traditional Taiko drumming performed by nonprofit San Jose Taiko, which seeks to preserve and share this cultural art.

Teens

Wizard Rock Concert

Monday, June 20, 6 p.m.

Rockers The Whomping Willows, Lauren Fairweather, Justin Finch-Fletchley and Armoured Bearcub perform in the auditorium.


Duct Tape Tag Craft

Wednesday, June 29, 2 p.m.

With a D.I.Y. attitude, you can make a tag for your backpack or luggage out of duct tape in one easy session. All materials provided.

Meet the Author: Mary Roach, Popular Science Writer 

Wednesday, June 22, 7:30 p.m. (see video above)

Oakland-based Mary Roach has written books and articles on popular science, including Stiff: The Curious Lives of Human Cadavers, Bonk: The Curious Coupling of Science and Sex. Her latest book is Packing for Mars: The Curious Science of Life in the World.

Adults can meet their favorite authors at various Santa Clara County libraries. The series features:

• Crime fiction writer Laurie King at Saratoga and Cupertino libraries on June 16

• Travel writer Carole Terwiliger Meyers at Cupertino Library on June 22

• Spellman family series Lisa Lutz at Morgan Hill Library on June 23

• Bestselling novelist Meg Waite Clayton at Los Altos Library  on July 27

• Zoe Ferraris talks about her experience as a woman who married into a Saudi-Palestinian Bedouin family which later inspired her novels. Campbell Library on August 17
