Teens Rock the Park at Cardoza

Milpitas Teen Center and South Bay Kids team up to showcase young talent at Cardoza Park.

If Total Swanks and Save the Castle don't sound familiar, then it's time to acquaint yourself with the local bands in town.

On Tuesday evening, teens from both bands, as well as solo artists and duos, jammed in Cardoza Park. 

"It's a good experience," said Margaret Nguyen, who sang and played guitar for the crowd of teens and family members.

Duo Andrea Melara and Anna Candari performed "Sunday Morning, When You Were Young" and "Time will Tell." Candari sang and played guitar at  in May.

The city of Milpitas has a portable stage that has been used for past summer concert series. This summer, is the only live music sponsored by the city. The next one is scheduled for July 26 at .

The sound system, which reverberated throughout the park so that even those on the baseball field could hear, was courtesy of Joe Santoro of South Bay School of Music Arts. Samu Tiumalu, the city's youth and teen coordinator, said the event could not have happened without Santoro. 

The South Bay Kids, a nonprofit performing arm of the , is in the middle of its summer tour of '60s and '70s soul music, where they were featured at the . The fair closed on July 10.

Now, performers are gearing up for a trip to Southern California, including Disneyland, Aug. 3-7.
