An Apple (Product) a Day...

A high school senior and Milpitas resident shares how Steve Jobs changed her world.

I am a die-hard music aficionado. Actually, I’m more than that: I literally need music to function. I listen to music when I’m driving, when I’m cranking out English essays, reading my favorite book (Fight Club), finishing up lab reports, painting the next Mona Lisa…You’d be hard-pressed to find me amidst your average “peace and quiet.”

But if it wasn’t for Steve Jobs and the convenience of iTunes and the iPod, it’s unlikely I would have been as hooked up to music as I like to be, and I probably wouldn’t have discovered some of my favorite musicians, like electronic group Dada Life.

I’m guessing I would have had to resort to lugging around CDs, having a boombox in every room, listening to radio shows full of static, or using a clunky MP3 device (can anyone say Zune?). Simply put, I would have been miserable.

Without my iTouch, I probably wouldn’t even have gotten my first internship.

I was walking around in Cupertino when I happened to notice the name of a company. I didn’t have a pen or paper (who uses those things anymore?), but I did have my trusty iTouch, so I found some WiFi, and looked the company up.  The rest is history; but if it wasn’t for my iTouch, there’s a huge chance I would have forgotten to look the company up on a computer when I got home.

Best part? I got to blast Nirvana on my iTouch while I was researching the company.

Of course, I’m not the only kid using Apple products. Everyday at school I see students sneak iPhones out from their pockets as they attempt to respond to a text without the teacher noticing. They’ll use their iPads instead of notebooks to take notes in class. There are kids regularly comparing the latest apps they downloaded (my personal favorite is the photo editing app, Instagram).

It’s not just about flaunting the Apple product; it's about flaunting the cases and skins, too. I constantly hear admiring comments of, “Whoah, that’s a really cool cover!” Naturally, I decided to join the crowd and decked my iTouch out with a Bob Marley skin.

If Steve Jobs had never created the iPod, my life would have been unmistakably different-- and not in a good way. Jobs will forever be missed, and the world owes him the utmost respect and recognition.
