Sierra LaMar Searches Will Be Wednesday and Saturday

Volunteer to help find the Morgan Hill teen.

The Find Sierra Search Center is organizing two searches this week for Sierra LaMar, the Morgan Hill teen missing since March 16.

Held on Wednesday and Saturday, both searches accept registration between 8 a.m. and 1 p.m., and continue until 6 p.m. at Burnett Elementary School (85 Tilton Road in Morgan Hill).

“We need volunteers, not only to help search, but because our presence provides security and hope to the family,” said Sheila Gokey, a local mother who has volunteered for several of the searches, held almost every weekend since the LaMar’s disappearance.

She encouraged volunteers to come on Saturday, the day before Mother’s Day, as a way of showing empathy for Marlene LaMar, Sierra’s mother.

Attire for the search should be close-toed shoes and no sandals, according to the Klaaskids Foundation, one of the organizations aiding the search. Volunteers should be at least 18 with photo ID, and be prepared to scan a variety of terrain ranging from fields to dense woods, including areas with increasing elevation.

Volunteers are also needed to staff the Find Sierra Search Center, which was established at Burnett Elementary School.

The Foundation is also accepting donations of poison oak ointment and insect repellant. Breakfast, lunch, and snacks will be provided for all volunteers.
