Back-to school shoppers packed the Great Mall in Milpitas Wednesday afternoon, snapping up clothes, shoes, backpacks and other school essentials. Teens gathered in laughing groups, while weary-faced Moms stood in line to pay for purchases.
Shoppers had two recently-opened stores to explore--Express and Solstice.
Express bills itself as "the must-have sexy, sophisticated fashion brand for work, the weekend, or going out." Aimed at professionals, business was slow with the afternoon crowd.
Around the corner at Solstice, shoppers tried on high-end sunglasses including Ray Bans, Maui Jim, Jimmy Choo and Prada. The store hired nine employees to sell the shades, which retail from $39 to nearly $700. Wondering what kind of sunglasses sell for that price? Try leather-wrapped Gucci's.
Express and Solstice will soon be joined by J. Crew, Watch Station and Off Broadway Shoe Warehouse. Each store plans to open this fall. Apply for jobs on the stores' web sites.
The Great Mall is the second largest employer in Milpitas, according to the city's 2010 Comprehensive Annual Financial Report.
