Omega Restaurant - Where Everybody Knows Your Name

This beloved Milpitas restaurant boasts four decades of happy customers.

Omega Family Restaurant and Lounge is owned by three brothers - Mike, Rafiel and Ramon Gamboa. They have owned and operated the restaurant, located at 90 S. Park Victoria Dr., for the past seven years. Patch sat down to talk to Mike Gamboa to learn a little more about the restaurant.

PATCH: How did the idea to open a restaurant come about?

Mike Gamboa: I like working in the restaurant business, like being my own boss. I like what I do.

When you step into Omega Family Restaurant, one thing becomes very clear -  this is more than just a restaurant; it's a gathering place. A place people come to on a regular basis not just for the food, but for the friendships they have developed with the staff and other customers. The restaurant has been a Milpitas staple for 40 years (it was called the Burger Pit back in the 70s).

PATCH: What did you do prior to opening a restaurant?

Mike Gamboa: I worked at the Country Way Restaurant in Fremont. I was a busboy, dishwasher, and then cook. I worked my way up.

PATCH: What is the most popular item on Omega's menu?

Mike Gamboa: Breakfast is the most popular - steak breakfast plates, corned beef hash, top sirloin breakfasts. Lunch is very busy too.

Omega comfortably seats 110 people and also has a banquet room that can be reserved for meetings or parties. There is a separate bar area that is open from 4-10 p.m.

PATCH: Is there anything you would like to say to the Patch readers?

Mike Gamboa: I would like to thank everybody; all the customers that come to Omega. Thank you for everything, all your support. I want to wish them all a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

If you have not dined at Omega, you are missing out on a wonderful little gem. The customers and staff are like family - many are on a first-name basis with each other.

Make plans to stop by Omega, and be sure to tell them Milpitas Patch sent you!
