Tech Round-Up: Cisco Acquires Ubiquisys For $310 Million

A look at how technology developments have made the news this week in Milpitas.

On Tuesday, Nanosys announced that it’s expanding into a 600,000 square foot facility in Milpitas. It’s slated to produce over 1,000 kilograms of quantum dots per year, enough material to construct more than 55” quantum dot TVs. It also expects to create at least 50 new manufacturing jobs.

Cisco just announced that it’s acquiring Ubiquisys Ltd. for $310 million. U.K.-based Ubiquisys Ltd. is a privately held mobile communications company that designs and develops communications devices. They will become part of Cisco’s “Small Cell Technology Group.”

Milpitas’ Fuji Electric Corp. of America announced that it has begun shipping out chargers for electric vehicles. The fourth-generation charger allows EV users to power their cars in an hour, according to the company.

Milpitas Unified School District’s director of technology services has laid out a “technology roadmap” -- initiatives that the district has began adapting. They include wi-fi installation at all schools, faster Internet access, and and the distribution of over 2,500 chromebooks for student use, including 220 devices at Milpitas High.
