Tech Roundup: A New COO for Dialogic, a High Honor for Spectra Labs and More

A roundup of news stories to come out of the Milpitas tech world over the past week.

 

Milpitas-based communications technology company Dialogic Inc. named a new president and chief operating officer this past week—Kevin Cook. Cook replaces Doug Sabella, who had previously served as president and CEO of Veraz Networks before it merged with Dialogic. Sabella headed the merging of the two companies. Cook previously served as senior vice president of sales and services under Sabella.

As the company settles in to its new Milpitas headquarters, Zollner Electronics proudly announced this past week that it completed production on and delivered its first customer contract. Jeff Broadbent, Zollner’s western region business development manager, said the contact was ordered with a short window of time for completion, and was for a green business initiative. The company appears to be feeling very positive about its future in Milpitas; John Burke, general manager, said in a media release distributed upon completion of the contract, “We are now officially open for business.”

Milpitas-based JDSU recently opened a new, 6,000-square-foot  network development center in Shenzhen, China. JDSU representatives said their reason for the new overseas center is so the company can “strengthen its research work around advanced testmeasurementoptical communications products.” The facility has 250 employees currently, with the potential to expand to 400. A ceremony was held to mark the opening of the new center, on Dec. 6. JDSU first started performing R&D work in Shenzhen in 2000.


Spectra Laboratories’ Milpitas facilities earned a major honor this past week when it was awarded accreditation by the American Association for Laboratory Accreditation (AALA). Criteria for the accreditation are strict, and require top scores in quality and competence, and the ability to deliver timely and reliable results. This is only the second accreditation to be awarded to a medical testing laboratory in the United States—the other went to Spectra’s facilities in New Jersey in 2010.

 

Milpitas-based Steel Excel Inc. announced Friday it has purchased the business and assets of Rogue Pressure Services LLC for an undisclosed amount. Steel Excel is known for acquiring profitable businesses in the oilfield services, sports, training, education, entertainment and lifestyle industries. Rogue Pressure Services primarily works in the oilfield industries in North Dakota and Texas.
