, 263 W. Calaveras Blvd., 408-934-2400: A former donut shop may seem like  an unlikely place for an Indian vegetarian restaurant, but Varsha's has made itself right at home. This family business serves up authentic Indian snacks such as hot stuffed parathas inspired by Bombay and North Indian-style cooking.

, 181 W. Calaveras Blvd., 408-263-6788: Malay cuisine is a rich fusion of Indonesian, Chinese, Indian and Thai cuisine. On Layang Layang’s extensive vegetarian menu are dishes like Sarang Veggie (fried taro root with vegetables) and platters featuring meat-free chicken or beef made of seitan.
