Two New Health Food Stores Coming to Fremont

A Whole Foods and a Sunflower Farmers Market are scheduled to open in 2012.

Nutrition nuts can rejoice. Two new grocery stores boasting natural and organic products will soon be opening in Fremont.

According to a press release, Sunflower Farmers Market is scheduled to open in Fremont in early 2012. The chain’s sixth California location, the store will be housed in the former Barnes & Noble building — a 25,425 square-foot space in the Fremont Plaza on Mowry Avenue and Fremont Boulevard.

The Fremont store is expected to bring 100 new jobs to the area, according to the press release.

Headquartered in Colorado with 34 locations in the country, the company boasts “serious food” and “silly prices.”

“Our commitment to supplying natural and organic groceries at the lowest possible price point makes us a great fit for Fremont’s health-conscious, budget-savvy consumers,” Sunflower CEO Chris Sherrell said in a statement. “We’re excited to bring a fresh choice to the area.”

Another fresh choice coming to the Tri-Cities area is the Texas-based health food giant Whole Foods Market.

The company announced it would be launching eight new stores “in fiscal year 2012 and beyond” in its third quarter market report released earlier this week.

The Tri-City Beat, an Inside Bay Area blog, and Fremont Foodie report that it will be located in the vacant lot on Mowry Avenue and Paseo Padre Parkway.
