Work Underway on New Milpitas Business

The new Union 76 will have a gas station, car wash and convenience store.

Work crews are excavating the site of a new gas station, car wash and 7-11 store at the corner of W. Calaveras Blvd. and Serra Way, next to and across the street from the future location of Grocery Outlet.

A Union 76 station had been on the corner since the 1970s, but the previous configuration of gas pumps and building did not allow for the expansion plans.

John Speelman, who was excavating the site Monday, said it would take “another week or so” for his crew to complete work before the next phase of the operation could get underway.

Reached at Union 76 corporate headquarters, Kristin Rollins does not have an estimate of when hiring will begin or when the business will open. She said the business is independently owned.

As for the revamping of the Union 76, Keyvan Irannejad, Chief Building Official for the City of Milpitas, sees it as a positive step, “Every new retail business coming to Milpitas will improve the number and variety of services provided to the Milpitas citizens,” he said. “When some businesses close and move out of the City, it leaves citizens with fewer choices of services and often causes them to go to other Cities to obtain them.”
