Zahir's Bistro Opens On Main Street

The longtime restauranteur says he finally has his 'dream restaurant.'

Milpitas is home to another restaurant, now that Zahir Quddus has opened his newest namesake eatery, Zahir's Bistro, on Main Street.

Shortly before Christmas, Quddus celebrated a soft opening, and says a grand opening may soon be forthcoming.

Quddus is a longtime local restaurant owner, having owned and operated several establishments in the area, including his most recent, Zahir's, in the former Baker's Square building on Calaveras Boulevard.

Now, Quddus says, he finally has his "dream restaurant." His new space on Main Street, which used to be home to Manila Natori Restaurant, is a spacious 6,500 square feet, and includes the one feature he has always wanted - banquet space.

His new bistro can seat 160, including 60 in the new private banquet room, which boasts a projector and screen for PowerPoint and video presentations.

There are plans for additional dining in the front outdoor patio area, he says.

Quddus says the menu at Zahir's Bistro will be healthy, upscale and delicious.

"I'm serving 100 percent organic food, top-of-the-line Angus beef and seafood," he described. "And I'm building an extensive wine list."

"I want my Bistro to be known all over the Bay Area," he added.

His chief cook, Luis, has been with him for 18 years, through many of his previous locations.

Zahir's new maitre d', Patrick, who is originally from Sonoma, said he was "blessed" to have found Zahir's.

Lunch at Zahir's includes salads and signature dishes like his popular French dip sandwiches, crab melts, prime rib sandwiches, warm walnut salads and chicken marsala, plus burgers and steaks.

"Catch of the day" fish and cioppino are dinner favorites, along with prime rib entrees, "Steak Zahir," steak dijonnaise, fettuccini jambalaya, artichoke chicken penne, and eggplant linguini parmesan.

Zahir's also offers desserts like tiramisu cake, panna coca, mango bomba sorbet, passion fruit bomba sorbet in a chocolate shell, New York-style cheesecake, chocolate caramel pyramid cake, and a special bread pudding.

The new Zahir's Bistro is located at 579 S. Main St. The restaurant is open Monday through Friday for lunch from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. and Monday through Saturday for dinner from 5-10 p.m.
