Brush Fire Closes Highway 237

The California Highway Patrol issues an alert on route connecting Milpitas to Mountain View.

Highway 237 was completely shut down in both directions by a grass fire on the north side of the road that sent dense, white smoke across the roadway near First Street in San Jose Tuesday afternoon.

It wasn’t long before all three westbound lanes were at a stop all the way to Milpitas.

As soon as firefighters knocked down the blaze, westbound traffic toward Milpitas began to flow normally, but two lanes heading toward Mountain View remained closed Β into the evening rushhour as crews mopped up the blaze.

Firefighters from Sunnyvale and San Jose poured water onto the flames while the CHP shut down the road.

No injuries were reported.
