Dozens of Flights to the Northeast Canceled as Hurricane Irene Approaches

More than 40 flights out of SFO are canceled Saturday in anticipation of Hurricane Irene.

More than 40 flights out of San Francisco International Airport (SFO) were canceled Saturday to the northeast region of the U.S. in anticipation of Hurricane Irene, an airport spokesman said.

Most major airlines canceled flights:

• American
• United
• Continental
• Delta
• Virgin America
• JetBlue
• US Airways

According to spokesman Michael McCarron, they were headed to various airports in the northeast, including the following:

• John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York
• Chicago O'Hare International Airport
• Boston Logan International Airport
• Newark Liberty International Airport
• Baltimore Washington International Airport
• Washington Dulles International Airport
• Philadelphia International Airport

All three New York City airports, Kennedy, Newark and LaGuardia, were scheduled to close all operations at 9 a.m. Saturday morning, McCarron said. McCarron advises all passengers, regardless of their destination and carrier, contact their airline for the most current flight information.

Passengers should not go to the airport unless their carrier has indicated that their flight will depart as scheduled.
