According to relatives, the services will be for both Joie Gil and Angelo.

Angelo Gil died on June 4 when Gilbert Gil, the father, was driving on Paseo Padre Parkway between Chadbourne Drive and Dorne Place in Fremont at around 12:50 p.m. The car lost control, causing the vehicle to careen into a tree and splitting the car in half.

Gilbert Gil and his child, who was fastened in a child safety seat in the backseat of the car, were ejected from the vehicle.

Angelo was pronounced dead at the scene.

Joie Gil was pulled from the wreck but succumbed to injuries from the crash the following day on June 5.

Police believe Gilbert Gil, 34, was speeding at the time of the accident. He has been charged with two counts of vehicular manslaughter with gross negligence and one count of child endangerment.

The tragic accident compelled friends, relatives and community members to set up a makeshift memorial at the site of the accident. Many more have taken to online forums to express their condolences.

“You never changed Joie. You were always kind and sweet and respectful to me. You were a joy to have and be around. You and your precious little boy will always be in our hearts and missed forever,” Ava Evans-DeCarlo wrote on online memorial website Legacy.com.

“We miss you and baby Angelo. I know you two are smiling down on us from Heaven. Thank you for being my oldest, dearest friend and thank you for being a part of mine and my family's life. You are missed, beautiful girl,” Stephanie Cline added.

According to her online obituary, Joie Gil, born Joie Marie Browne, studied at Milpitas High School and worked as an accountant in San Jose. She enjoyed gardening, baking and spending time outdoors.

Her organs have been donated to the California Transplant Donor Network to help others, according the obituary.

Joie Gil is survived by her parents, husband, two children and three stepchildren, along with numerous members of her extended family.

In lieu of flowers, family members are asking that donations be made to a trust fund for her children’s college expenses.
