Get Out: Dog Adoption, Farmers Market, Festival of India, Toy Show

It's Friday and you're about ready to do the weekend happy dance. What better time to look ahead and plan your weekend with fun and interesting activities.

Check out our picks for getting out on the town:



  1. Where/When: Humane Society Silicon Valley, 901 Ames Ave., Milpitas; Saturday from noon to 2 p.m.

    Why go: Visit dogs and puppies of all ages, breeds and sizes that are available for adoption into a loving and stable home. Meet with “foster parents” who are caring for some of the animals and learn what it’s like to take home a rescue pet.

    Price: Free.


  2. SAN JOSE SUPER TOY COMIC BOOK & COLLECTIBLE SHOW

    Where/When: Santa Clara County Fairgrounds, 344 Tully Road, San Jose; Saturday from 11 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

    Why go: Two-hundred vendors selling new and vintage items, including Hot Wheels, GI Joe, LEGO, Godzilla, dolls, Star Wars, Disney, Star Trek, robots, trading cards, records, posters, original art and more. Among celebrity guests will be Dawn Wells who played Mary Ann in the TV comedy series “Gilligan’s Island.”

    Price: $3 to $15




  3. Where/When: 39439 Paseo Padre Parkway, Fremont; Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.

    Why go: This two-day cultural celebration will feature a grand parade, dance competitions, Bollywood stars, singers, a free health fair, cultural programs and 130 vendor booths offering cloths, arts and crafts and flavorful food. See more details .

  4. SILICON VALLEY ROLLER GIRLS

    Where/When: San Jose Skate, 397 Blossom Hill Road, San Jose; Saturday at 5:30 p.m.

    Why go: See the Silicon Valley Roller Girls take on the Rat City's Sockit Wenches and South Coast Roller Derby in a double header.

    Price: $10 to $30



  5. Where/When: India Community Center parking lot, 525 Los Coches St., Milpitas; Sunday from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.

    Why go: Get your fresh summer veggies before they’re gone. Also check out a selection of fresh fish, eggs and more.

    Price: Free.
