Library Closed for Computer System Upgrades

Programs and services at all Santa Clara County Library branches will come to a halt for a day to allow for the maintenance and upgrading of the library and computer systems.

The Milpitas Public Library and others in the Santa Clara County system will be closed Wednesday.

Technicians plan to install Horizon software, a major upgrade to enhance the integrated library system and public access computer system.

Because the upgrade involves hardware and complex coordination between the vendor and the district in two different states, the district could not avoid taking the system down temporarily.

The new system will allow the library district to perform future maintenance remotely, said library director Melinda Cervantes.

This date was chosen for the closure, because it tends to be one of the less busy times of year and will have the least impact on patrons.

The county library district serves residents of Campbell, Cupertino, Gilroy, Los Altos, Los Altos Hills, Milpitas, Monte Sereno, Morgan Hill, Saratoga and unincorporated Santa Clara County.
