Milpitas Sewer Project May Slow Motorists

Traffic lanes may be narrowed or closed along portions of South Main Street and Great Mall Parkway for sewer replacement work.

Motorists traveling near the may experience delays starting today as work on a new sanitary sewer main replacement project gets under way.

Starting at 7 a.m. construction workers from Sanco Pipelines, Inc. will set up equipment along South Main Street between East Curtis Avenue and Great Mall Parkway, and along Great Mall Parkway between South Main Street and McCandless Drive.

The project involves replacing and upsizing existing sewer lines that serve residential and commercial addresses in the area. Construction will take place from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Mondays through Saturdays with a completion date planned for Nov. 15.

During construction, workers will try to maintain normal traffic access to the area and minimize disruption in the neighborhoods. They also plan to keep access to driveways along the route open. However, street parking will likely be impacted during periods of heavy construction. When this happens, workers will post No Parking and Tow-Away signs in affected areas 24 hours in advance of enforcement.

For questions about the construction, dubbed the Sewer 11A/11B Project, residents can contact Fariborz Heydari from the Milpitas Engineering Department at 408-586-3303, or Fernando Bravo at 408-586-3328.
