Zoe Lofgren to Visit Sierra Lamar Search Center

U.S. Rep will join volunteers who meet in bi-weekly searches for missing teen, Sierra Lamar.

U.S. Rep. Zoe Lofgren, D-San Jose, is scheduled to visit the Sierra Lamar Search Center Wednesday morning, where volunteers will gather for another of their bi-weekly searches for the missing teenager.

Sierra Lamar has been missing since March 16, when she left her Morgan Hill home to go to school.

Mark Klaas of the KlaasKids Foundation said that he hopes the visit will help keep the case in the public consciousness.

"In reality what you have here is a sixth month old case where nothing new has happened in the last four months...it's extremely hard to keep interest even in the best of times," Klaas said.

But public interest or not, Klaas said, there is no end in sight for the search efforts, except of course, "the foreseeable end is to find Sierra."

Antolin Garcia-Torres, the 21-year-old man suspected of taking Sierra, was arrested on May 21 and charged with murder after DNA evidence believed to be Sierra's was found in his car.

Lofgren's visit on Wednesday follows the visit of another Congressional representative, Jerry McNerney, D-Pleasanton, who joined volunteers last month.

The search center is located at Burnett Elementary School at 85 Tilton Ave.
