Ramadan

Ramadan, the ninth month of the Islamic calendar, begins today. The Islamic month of fasting lasts 29-30 days during which Muslims refrain from eating and drinking during daylight hours. 

The pratice is intended to teach patience, spirituality and humility. Local Muslim and Islamic Centers in the Silicon Valley include the Baitul Baseer of the ,  and  in Milpitas and the South Bay Islamic Association on 325 North 3rd St. in San Jose.

On the Peninsula, the Peninsula Muslim Association in Mountain View offers several locations to pray as well. The Taqwa Islamic Center located on 361 Villa St in Mountain View is another good spot to observe throughout the month.
