Readers' Choice: Martial Arts Studios

Tae Kwon Do, Jiu Jitsu, Karate—where in Milpitas do you like to get your kicks in?

Martial arts can be a great way to train both mind and body, and Milpitas has no lack of programs to help people reach their goals.

So which martial arts studio is a black belt winner? Here are some we've come across: West Coast Martial Arts (Milpitas Boulevard), West Coast Martial Arts (Park Victoria), Jung Suwon Martial Art Academy, Guardian Art, , , , , , , , , , , .

Many of these studios offer programs for young kids, as well as teens and adults. There are self-defense classes for girls and women, and opportunities for students to compete as they become proficient in the martial art.

So cast your votes in our poll and drop a comment about why you think your favorite place is worth a visit. Click on the links above and rate the business on its Patch Places listing. You can even leave a review.

Voting in the poll is open until 9 a.m. Friday. Ties will be broken by whichever business has the most positive comments in the section below.  We will announce the winner at noon Friday and that business will receive a "Patch Readers' Choice" certificate.

Unlimited MMA hands down. You get the most bang for your buck there. If you need to lose weight, they have cardio kickboxing which also helps your coordination, physical strength, agility, and overall confidence. Then, when you are ready, you can take a stab at Crossfit. All the classes are very encouraging. If you want to go with the more traditional route, they have Muay Thai and BJJ. Both classes are taught by professionals in their art and offer top notch service.

I've done TKD, Hapkido, Aikido and even traditional kung-fu. But, there's definitely something about Unlimited MMA. They've got great coaches and members that are helpful and supportive. From getting in the best shape of your life, to becoming a professional fighter, this place IS THE PLACE that can take you there if you truly desire it. I urge you to take a class and check it out yourself. As the Coach always says... Get some!

Unlimmited MMA! Ive been taking classes at Unlimmited MMA since last summer. I started with the kickboxing classes, and lost all the baby fat from my first child, and put me in the best shape of my life. I'm now learning Muay Thai, so I can put my skills to use in the ring. They offer classes at all times of day with professional coaches! Great gym with everything you need to learn martial arts!

+1 for Unlimited MMA! Rudi and his coaches are great. I started last August with zero martial arts/combat experience and have seen great improvements in my health and technique. Definitely worth checking out.

Supportive and skilled coaches, who are well known and respected in their respective arts 3. Numerous types of classes, from Muay Thai, Crossfit, Cardio Kickboxing, Jiu Jitsu, etc. at different times to fit your schedule! Even the students are encouraging, which provides for an overall positive atmosphere!

O-Mei KungFu is the best. While most of the other martial arts schools focus on offensive and attack techniques to teach martial arts, O-Mei focusses on the strong essentials, i.e. inner strength, discipline and focus, with building strength of character. In the world of today the skills they impart are valuable to stand up to bullying, and aggressive people in the work place etc. My son who is only 6 has learned the method of focus, discipline and character, which is helping him in school as well. The teachers here (SiFu YanFei and SiFu Li) incorporate a lot of worldly skills which has helped in building strong bonds and interest for the students.
