KlaasKids Foundation to Host Print-A-Thon Saturday

Foundation to also resume search Wednesday for missing Morgan Hill teen Sierra LaMar.

To help children and parents in the event of a kidnapping, the KlaasKids Foundation will be hosting a print-a-thon Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Burnett Elementary School in Morgan Hill.

KlaasKids founder Marc Klaas said children will be fingerprinted and given a digital identification document with their photo on it, as well as a take-home DNA kit and a nine-point emergency plan for parents on what to do if their child goes missing.

Klaas said the foundation has been hosting the print-a-thon program for 18 years, and has fingerprinted more than one million children around the country.

“We don’t charge for the fingerprinting, it’s totally free,” Klaas said. “And we will not database any of the fingerprints that we make.”

The program utilizes imaging systems originally developed for federal law enforcement agencies by Sentry Technology that integrate digitized computer technology to fingerprint and photograph children quickly without ink or film.

Parents immediately receive an English or Spanish-language biographical document featuring forensic quality magnified fingerprints, an updated photograph and a form with blank fields for personal and identifying information.

The Search for Sierra Resumes

After a week off for the 4th of July holiday, Klass said the search for missing Morgan Hill teen Sierra LaMar will resume on Wednesday and Saturday.

Volunteers are asked to register between 8 and 10 a.m. at Burnett Elementary School, located at 85 Tilton Ave. in Morgan Hill.
