Patch’s Guide to Halloween Happenings

Our guide to all the Halloween fun going on in or near Milpitas over the next week.

Halloween is in the air! If you’re looking to ring in this spookiest of holidays with more than just tricks-or-treats, check out Patch’s guide to all things Halloween—a list of all the events going on in or near Milpitas that we could find.

Where: Weller Elementary multi-use room, 345 Boulder St., Milpitas

When: This Friday, Oct. 28, 6-8 p.m.

What: The Weller PTA invites the public to its 2011 Halloween Carnival. Bring your carved pumpkin from home and enter it in the Pumpkin Carving contest; wear your best costume for the costume contest; and enjoy food, the Haunted Maze, a cake walk and more. Plus, try for a chance at winning an iPhone in the raffle!

Price: Tickets are 4 for $1, PTA members get 8 complimentary tickets.

 

HOWL AT THE MOON

When: This Friday, Oct. 28, 6-8 p.m.

Where: Milpitas Civic Center Plaza, 455 E. Calaveras Blvd.

What: Dress up both your two-legged and four-legged loved ones and head on over to the Howl at the Moon celebration, sponsored by the Parks and Recreation Department. There will be photo opportunities, a kid-and-canine costume parade, a pumpkin patch, a children’s activity area, resource tables for dog owners, and much more. Dogs must be well-socialized, on a leash and be up-to-date on all vaccinations. So, if you’re looking for a fun event the whole family can enjoy, you’re barking up the right tree with Howl at the Moon!

Price: Free!

 

A LITTLE FRIGHT MUSIC

When: This Friday, Oct. 28 at 7:30 p.m.

Where: The , 457 E. Calaveras Blvd.

What: The Milpitas Community Concert Band presents a FREE Halloween concert, featuring all sorts of enticing and spooky music, including numbers by Danny Elfman, songs from the Harry Potter soundtracks and much more. Come in costume for a chance at winning prizes! As an extra added bonus, the band is offering a $50 prize to the school that brings the most attendees to the concert, and teachers count as five attendees!

Price: Free!

 

HAPPY HAUNTING HALLOWEEN PARTY

When: Halloween, Monday, Oct. 31, 3:30-5:30 p.m.

Where: , Main Street and Great Mall Parkway, Milpitas

What: The Great Mall’s club for children, called the “Simon Kidgits Club,” is throwing a spooktacular Halloween party for children on Halloween day. Bring your children and join in the festivities, which will include free Halloween goodies, arts and crafts, giveaways and more, plus the staff will host the Yo Gabba Gabba costume contest for children of all ages, with a grand prize of a family four-pack of tickets to the upcoming Yo Gabba Gabba live show at the Civic Auditorium on Nov. 19. The party’s sponsor, Dole, will also be giving away free bags of healthy treats.

27TH ANNUAL FAMILY FALL FESTIVAL

Where: , 1000 S Park Victoria Dr.

When: Halloween night, Monday, Oct. 31, 5-8 p.m.

What: Want somewhere safe and comfortable to take your kids trick or treating? Local families are invited to the CCC for a fun night of trick-or-treating and Halloween fun. Kids can enjoy more than 25 different carnival games while parents receive a free slice of pie! The Community Coffee will also be open. There will also be a dunk tank, bounce house, face painting and other fun kid contests.

Price: Free!

 

Where: Corner of E. Calaveras Boulevard and N. Park Victoria Drive

When: Open daily through Saturday, Oct. 29. Hours of operation are 11 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. on weekends and 5-8 p.m. on weekdays.

What: Bring the whole family and have a great time at the local neighborhood pumpkin patch, hosted by the Rotary Club, with a portion of the proceeds benefiting local schools. Even if you already have a pumpkin, the patch is a great place to come and just have fun. It features a giant slide, jump houses, a scary haunted maze and snacks for all. It's also a great place to snap a family photo - especially if you come in costume!

Price: Free admission, ride passes and pumpkins available for purchase.

 

HAUNTED HOTEL

Where: Williams Historical Park, The Chadbourne Carriage House, 39169 Fremont Blvd., Fremont

When: Open daily through Oct. 30 from 6-9 p.m. on weekdays and 2-10 p.m. on weekends. A special Kids’ Costume Parade will take place this Sat., Oct. 29 at 1 p.m.

What: A Halloween smorgasbord of activities, that benefits the nonprofit Candle Lighters prganization, which helps fund east bay charities. In addition to the haunted Ghost House itself, families can enjoy a midway of games, caramel apples, a country store and a wealth of delightful food treats.

Price: Ghost House admission $3 each, game tickets 25 cents each.

 

‘DEAD TIME DREAMS’

Where: Santa Clara County Fairgrounds, 344 Tully Road, San Jose.

When: Every Friday, Saturday and Sunday through Oct 31.

What: A truly frightening, interactive haunted attraction that puts the average haunted house to shame! Not for very young children, or the faint of heart—but only those who want to be truly scared!

Price: Single tickets, $20 each. $3 discount per ticket for groups of 20 or more.

 

U.S.S. HORNET ‘MONSTER BASH’

Where: 707 W. Hornet Avenue, Pier 3, Alameda.

When: This Saturday, Oct. 29, 7:30 p.m. to midnight.

What: Fun if you have kids, and still fun if you don’t! This bash features festivities for all ages, including haunted tours, costume contests, dancing, a special children's area, a “haunted hospital” and other treats, set to the tune of live music by The Cocktail Monkeys.

Price: Adults - $20 in advance or $25 at the door. Kids - $10 each.
