A road closure in Fremont is causing a traffic backup on Interstate Highway 880 this evening.
Kato Road was closed between Warm Springs Boulevard and Milmont Drive at around 9 a.m. today for emergency repairs and was expected to reopen this evening, a Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority spokeswoman said.
The roadwork is taking longer than expected, however, and will most likely continue through the night, spokeswoman Brandi Childress said.
Childress said the VTA hopes to reopen Kato Road by Thursday morning.
The closure is snarling traffic in the area and causing backups along Highway 880, Childress said.
Motorists are advised to take Dixon Landing Road to Warm Springs Boulevard to Scott Creek Road as a detour.
