Local Death Notices: Flutist, Bridge Player

We recognize the following people who are recently deceased.

Donna Lee Aceves passed away on June 27 at the age of 40. Mother of three, grandmother of three, and loving wife, she made her career as a psychotherapist. She took up flute at the age of 40 and became an active member of the Watsonville Community Band.

Betty Dunlap was born in Watsonville during the Great Depression. She raised three sons with her husband in Santa Monica. In retirement, she became a Life Master American Contract Bridge player.

Walter D. Pierce, recently of Gilroy, died in his sleep on June 27 at the age of 82. Pierce served in the Army Corps of Engineers in the Korean War and moved to Los Gatos in the 1950s. He lived with his wife in the Santa Cruz mountains until 2013 when they moved to Gilroy. He is survived by his wife, two children, and grandchildren.
