Obituary: Mike Baxter, Retired Milpitas Teacher and Principal, Dies at 66

Baxter was beloved by colleagues, family and friends for his zest for life. He died doing what he loved.

Mike Baxter
Feb. 9, 1947 - April 8, 2013

Mike Baxter died suddenly and unexpectedly April 8, 2013 on the slopes of Breckenridge doing what he loved most: skiing.

Mike's motto was, "God put me on this earth to play," and so he did. He was a vibrant, charismatic man, an enthusiastic storyteller with a great sense of humor. He skied, golfed and SCUBA dove. He loved being outdoors hunting and fishing.

Mike had a passion for art and sculpture. After retiring in Colorado, he reunited with that love.

Mike graduated from SJSU with a Masters in Art and taught art 27 years. In 2009 he retired as a high school principal in Milpitas. Mike's gift was working with at-risk kids with a "tough love" approach.

Mike is survived by his wife, Lynn Kennedy Baxter; mother Mary; daughters Nalani and Malia; granddaughters Kaylin and Kiley; brother Brian and sisters Sheelagh and Shana.

Mike was a devoted husband, father and grandfather, a loyal friend, and dedicated educator. He will be missed by the many lives he touched.

Service is Sunday, April 28th at 2:00pm at Villa Ragusa, 35 South Second St. in Campbell. Donations can be made "In memory of Mike Baxter" to Child Advocates of Silicon Valley, who work with at-risk kids.

Please wear colorful clothing to his service in memory of his zest for life!
