Battery Made by Fremont Company Found in Boston Marathon Explosive

The company is based in Fremont, but the batteries are manufactured in China, according to media reports.

Some of the latest news out of Boston Wednesday morning is photographs of the explosive device that killed three and left 176 people injured at Monday's Boston Marathon.

The photographs, posted by Reuters, show that a suspected bomb part contained a battery made by Fremont-based Tenergy.

The company expressed shock and sympathy following news of the connection.

"We were appalled to discover that one of our off-the-shelf products was used in such a horrific and senseless act of hate," a company spokesman told CBS San Francisco. "We have contacted both the FBI and the Boston Police and will assist in any way possible to help identify the responsible parties."

The Mercury News reports that the battery is a 1.25-volt Sub C-3000 battery that was manufactured in China and sold by the Fremont company. The batteries are typically used for remote control cars.

According to reports, the item is a specialized battery available in stores across the country and online. The company told the Mercury News that it sold tens of thousands of those particular batteries in 2012.

Among regional retailers of Tenergy products Union City's Nor-Cal Hobbies. Though the Sub C-3000 battery isn't sold, a store employee stated that the particular battery can be used to ignte gas-powered remote controlled cars.

Despite media reports that a suspect in the Boston Marathon explosions has been arrested, Boston police have said no suspects have been detained.
