Driver Arrested After Colliding With Teen Bicyclist in Milpitas

Police believe the driver was impaired due to the use of prescription medication.

A driver who struck and injured a teen on a bicycle in Milpitas Friday morning was allegedly driving under the influence of prescription medication, according to police.

The collision occurred around 11:20 a.m. at 810 South Park Victoria Drive and Platt Avenue, according to Sgt. Rah Maharaj.

The driver, 57-year-old Miguel Jose Mora, allegedly drove up on to the sidewalk and then struck a 15-year-old boy riding a bicycle in the bike lane, Maharaj said.

The boy suffered non-life threatening injuries and was taken to a hospital for treatment. Mora, a Milpitas resident, was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence.

Police believe he was impaired due to the use of prescription medication.
