Driver in Fatal Highway Crash Identified as Milpitas Man

The driver of a 1991 Toyota that crashed on Highway 237 Friday morning and died has been identified as 52-year-old William Marquez of Milpitas.

The Santa Clara County Medical Examiner-Coroner's office has identified after his car went off a highway ramp in Milpitas as 52-year-old William Marquez of Milpitas.

The crash occured shortly after 6 a.m. on a ramp from Calaveras Boulevard to westbound state Highway 237.
Marquez was driving a white 1991 Toyota pickup in the far left lane at about 35 mph when he lost control of the vehicle, according to the California Highway Patrol (CHP).

The Toyota went off the roadway onto a dirt embankment and overturned onto its roof. Marquez was pronounced dead at the scene.

Alcohol was not a factor in the crash, according to the CHP. Marquez was wearing his seatbelt.

The left lane of the ramp was closed for about two and a half hours as the CHP investigated the crash.

According to an article in the San Jose Mercury News, rain and wet road conditions Friday morning was a contributing factor in Marquez losing control of his vehicle.
