Elderly Woman Crashes Truck into Main Street Restaurant

The crash occurred at 10:59 a.m. at Red Chillies Restaurant.

An elderly woman drove her truck into into a wall of the Red Chillies Restaurant, an Indian restaurant at South Main Street and Serra Way, at 10:59 a.m. Friday.

While there were no injuries, the front end of the truck was totaled and the restaurant experienced structural damage. The crash occurred close to where one of the owners was vacuuming inside, the Milpitas Post reported.

Eastbound Serra Way was blocked for an hour while crews supervised the clean-up, but has since reopened.

The cause of the crash is still under investigation, Milpitas Police Srt. Abbie Serrano told Milpitas Patch. The restaurant, located in a building which is the former site of Smith's Corner and Campbell's Corner, is closed until further notice.

The reopen date depends on how long it takes city officials and insurance representatives to rebuild the wall.

Milpitas police are encouraging anyone with information about the crash to call(408) 586-2400. Information can be given anonymously by calling (408) 586-2500 or via the Milpitas Police Department website.
