Guns Drawn at Great Mall; Suspects Released

The incident occurred shortly before the lunch in the parking lot of the Great Mall.

San Jose and Milpitas police pulled a car over into the Great Mall parking lot around 11:30 a.m. Friday. According to Sgt. Matt Toffey, San Jose police had asked Milpitas for a "code 3 assistance" with a car stop.

Two men were stopped for a possible connection with an armed robbery case.

As police asked the two men to climb out of the car, their guns were pointed at aΒ black Dodge Charger with a spoiler, according to witnesses.

"They took them out of the car at gunpoint," said a witness who works at Home Depot, the closest store to the incident.Β "I thought they had robbed a bank or something."Β 

The first man got out of the car and dropped to his knees, said Alex van der Kleut, who walked out of Kohl's just before noon and saw eight or 10 police cars and 20 to 30 bystanders watching.

The two men were detained in the back of a police car and later released in the parking lot of the Great Mall between Home Depot and Kohl's.

The San Jose Police Department has not had yet responded to a call from Milpitas Patch.
