Hiker Who Died in Fall Near Milpitas Identified

Andrey Prozorov of Santa Clara fell to his death last weekend from a cliff in Alum Rock Park near Berryessa and Milpitas.

A hiker who fell to his death last weekend from a cliff in Alum Rock Park in San Jose has been identified as Andrey Prozorov of Santa Clara, the Santa Clara County medical examiner's office reported today.

Prozorov, 53, was reported missing on Saturday and his body was located Sunday by a park ranger, according to the San Jose Fire Department.

The man fell from 130 to 170 feet to his death in a remote section of the park where it was difficult to recover his body, San Jose fire officials said.

The volunteer San Jose Search and Rescue team reached the body in difficult terrain and had to use 200 feet of rope at a high angle to finally lift it out at about 3:30 p.m. Monday, team spokesman Phil Emery said.

The hiker had been climbing in the eastern part of the park that is dangerously steep and closed to the public, Park Ranger Roger Abe said.
