On the day the family attended services for Alfredo Rodriguez, 43, victim of a gunshot wound in Milpitas' first homicide of the year, police announced that a suspect has been taken into custody.
The suspect is in custody on an unrelated charge. Police are working with the District Attorney's office to file charges related to the shooting as early as next week.
Detectives from the Milpitas Police Department identified the suspect based on several leads, according to a press release.
The fatal shooting took place on Monday morning, Memorial Day, at about 3:47 a.m. on the 1400 block of South Main Street in front of Jerry's Market, which was closed at the time.
