Update: Milpitas Police Identify Man Killed in 7-Eleven Homicide

6:30 p.m. Update: Milpitas Police have identified the 7-Eleven employee who was shot and killed early Saturday during a robbery attempt as Mohammad Reza Sadeghzadeh, 67, of Milpitas.

The gunman remains at large. Police are asking anyone who may have witnessed unusual activity at the scene or have information about the case to call the Milpitas Police Department at (408) 586-2400.

2:30 p.m. Update: Lt. Daryl Sequeira with the Milpitas Police Department reported that there has been some progress on the 7-Eleven homicide investigation and that the victim's name may be released later today. He also confirmed that the victim was a 7-Eleven employee and was shot and killed as part of a robbery.

Some media reports had given the victim's age as 62. Sequeira said that is wrong. But he wouldn't elaborate, saying that the correct age and other information about the victim is forthcoming.

Sequeira said every detective on the force is working on the case in some capacity. Nonetheless, police are still seeking help from the public who may know something about what happened. Police particularly want to hear from people who visited the store in the hour or so before the shooting which occurred shortly after 2 a.m. Saturday. 

"We're looking for anybody who may have seen anything that night," Sequeira said. "Even if they think it wasn't important at the time, it might be now," he added.

The killing was the first homicide in Milpitas in 2012.

11:30 a.m. Update, 7-Eleven reopens: The 7-Eleven store where a worker was shot and killed over the weekend has re-opened for business. A clerk working the counter mid-morning Monday said the store opened its doors to customers at midnight. 

The store was closed most of the weekend while police searched for clues in the homicide which was reported just after 2 a.m. Saturday. Private security kept customers away while the investigation was going on inside the store.

Meanwhile, impromptu flower arrangements are showing up in the convenience store's parking lot as a memorial to the slain man.

There is no word yet from police if the incident was captured on the store's surveillance cameras. The investigation continues.

6 a.m. Update, 7-Eleven Shooting Investigation Continues: Police in Milpitas are continuing their investigation of a weekend shooting that left a man dead at a 7-Eleven convenience store on North Milpitas Boulevard.

The shooting occurred in the early hours of Saturday morning at the store which is open 24-hours a day. Just after 2 a.m. police received an emergency call about a person injured in the store, located at 1496 N. Milpitas Blvd. Arriving officers found a man on the floor. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police have not released the age or identity of the victim. There were no immediate leads on a suspect or witnesses to the crime. The store was closed most of Saturday and all day Sunday to customers and onlookers while detectives continued their investigation.
