UPDATED: Suspected Kidnapper at KB Homes Appears in Court

Sun Yong Sim, 30, is at the Santa Clara County Main Jail for kidnapping, among other charges. He is being held without bail and is scheduled to make a second court appearance on March 1.

Sun Yong Sim appeared in court on Tuesday for the first time since his arrest Thursday in Milpitas. He did not enter a plea and will be assigned a public defender, according to Jess Guy from the county alternate defender's office. 

Sim, 30, a Santa Clara resident, is being held without bail at the county main jail with charges of kidnapping, false imprisonment, death threats, robbery, residential burglary and resisting arrest. 

A 28-year-old Milpitas woman did not sustain serious injuries, but she may have been held captive at her townhome, according to research by Milpitas Patch.

Police say the victim is an acquaintance of Sim and lives in the KB Homes complex on Vida Larga Loop near Cielo Lindo Common.

Milpitas police arrested Sim on Thursday at 10:08 a.m. after a short foot pursuit. He was taken to a local hospital for medical attention, where he remained over the weekend. He is being held without bail and scheduled to appear in court on Tuesday.

There are no other suspects at large, according to police.

Sim has no criminal record in Santa Clara County, according to the sheriff's office. He is scheduled to appear in court on March 1.

The Milpitas Post reported that officers responded to the call at about 8:30 a.m. Thursday and that Sim was acting suicidal and cut himself.
