Milpitas DUI Arrests Net 6 in Late Summer Campaign
Day 17 of the national anti-drunken driving campaign brings the county's total to 183 arrests.
The Milpitas Police Department reported another three DUI arrests over the past several days - bringing the total to six - as a result of a strong focus on the national end-of-Summer/Labor Day campaign against drunken driving.
The Santa Clara County Sheriff's Office, which coordinates the "Avoid the 13" drunk driving campaigns throughout the year, has reported 183 arrests from 15 law enforcement agencies in the county since the Summer/Labor Day campaign began Aug. 17.
DUI checkpoints will be conducted on Saturday September 1st in the cities of Milpitas and San Jose. Extra DUI units called "saturation patrols will be deployed in the cities of Campbell, Milpitas, Los Altos, Mountain View, Los Gatos, Palo Alto, San Jose, Santa Clara, Gilroy, Sunnyvale, Morgan Hill, Cupertino, Saratoga, Los Altos Hills, and the unincorporated areas of Santa Clara County.

Research has shown that the end of summer and Labor Day is a dangerous period for accidents related to drunk driving.
Arrests made in Los Altos Hills, Cupertino and Saratoga are handled by the Santa Clara County Sheriff's Department, or the California Highway Patrol, and figures from those agencies are not broken down by city.
